Dog Rating:
(Good scenery, a little difficult for Brown Dog’s level of experience)
Difficulty: Easy
It was another lovely Saturday, perfect for a tromp through the woods. In this week’s episode of the “adventures of brown dog” we visited a fun trail on along the Boulder River. We didn’t do the whole trail due to safety concerns but we did do a few miles (Daniel did even more!).
The trail begins at a small parking area. We arrived early (about 9am) and parked near the trail head. Once we got out of the car we began walking up the trail where it begins by crossing two small wooden bridges.
After the bridges is the official trailhead sign. The trail itself is primarily an old railroad bed from the trailhead for the first mile. It climbs steeply for a few hundred feet before entering the Wilderness.
The trail is generally in good condition and has been recently maintained. At this point I realized I hadn’t locked the car so I hiked back to the trailhead to check it. That added 2 miles to my hike which I covered in about 20 minutes before returning to Kristy and Sam.
We took some pictures of the first waterfall before continuing on to the big waterfall.
Here there is a log bench where we sat and had a snack. We took some pictures of the big waterfall before continuing on the trail.
At this point, brown dog decided to go on her own down the hill and I had to climb down the steep slope to lift her back up.
We continued on a few hundred more feet before coming to a very slippery log bridge. I tried to urge Sam up onto it but she wasn’t sure what to do and I didn’t want to force her.
We were probably around 1.75 miles at this point (almost 4 for Daniel) so rather than risk the pooch’s safety, we decided to turn around and head home. It was a short hike for us (about 3.5 miles for Brown dog and Kristy, 5.5 for Daniel) but we got to see the big waterfall so I was satisfied.
